Caption: Populism vs. Populism. A term that used to mean of the people is thrown around a lot these days. Populist leaders like Trump are on the rise. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are running populist campaigns. Let's break this down, shall we? Trump populism. Authoritarianism. Patriarchy. Theocracy. Power to bosses. Warren/Sanders Populism. Democracy. Equality. Separation of church and state. Power to workers. yes. They're total opposites. We're using the same word to talk about the problem and the solution ... making the news awfully confusing. I consider myself a populist. You mean like AOC or neo-Nazis? Will populism defeat populism in 2020? Stay tuned!

Caption: Candidate Time Machine. Yes, the GOP is waging total war on Democracy, but I'll reach across the aisle like it's 1992! Die. I am tall, skinny, and youthful, and if you squint hard enough, you can pretend it's 2008 and I'm Barack Obama. Yeah, the average Trump voter had an income around $70,000 and was pretty much a soft, Viagra-popping suburban dad. But I will win those white working-class guys in diners from 2016! We represent the year 2064, when America finally listens to w - And that's the latest from the campaign trail! Back to you, Bob!

Caption: The Parable of The Good Trumparitan. A family brutalized by crime and violence sought asylum at the border. The Good Trumparitan came upon them and said … Go away! We're full!! The family tried to go around and enter illegally, and the Good Trumparitan tear-gassed them. They then tried to enter legally, but he demanded they pay a hefty fee. Asylum. Price of admission. The Good Trumparitan then separated the family and locked the children in cages. As Jesus said, Ask and it will not be given to you; search, and you will not find; knock and the door will not be opened for you.

Caption: The Vatican is holding a summit to discuss the problem of clerical sexual abuse. Leading bishops from around the world are attending the 4-day gathering. Expectations for concrete solutions are being downplayed by church officials and instead described as one phase in a long process. You'd think the Vatican would be further along at this point. In 2002, the Boston Globes investigative reporting exposed the Catholic archdiocese of Boston's patter of covering up sexual abuse of children by priests. Rather than report all these priests to the authorities, church leaders moved them to a different parish, even multiple times, when those priests sexually abused again. Church documents showed that the archbishop of Boston, Cardinal Bernard Law, had knowledge of many of these cases yet repeatedly said he didn't remember. I don't recall. Cardinal Law eventually resigned, but instead of ensuring Law faced legal action, Pope John Paul II gave him a position at the Vatican that included a large, comfortable apartment and, according to the N.Y. Times, A $12,000 monthly stipend. Cardinal Law died in 2017. It's long past time for reform from the Vatican.

Caption: Kurds in the Way. So we came up with a humorous line on the Syria situation. You say we had the situation under control but the Kurds got in the way. What? A little humor to alleviate the tension. Like the poem - Miss Muffet was eating her curds and whey. Sitting on her tuffet. Her tuffet? What's she look like, this Muffet woman? Cute? Nice tuffet? Nice young tuffet? No ... uh. I wouldn't mind some good-looking young Muffet around here. Especially when I'm here all alone. Grab 'em by the tuffet, you know? But ... So good idea. Send over this Muffet honey. Sitting on her tuffet. Good one. She like hamburgers? Wait ... she ... ? 'Cause we got some hamburgers left over from those football players. I can't eat them all myself. What were you saying about Syria? Not that I care. M.
