Jack Ohman's Editorial Cartoons

Published 2020-05-31 (Image 183454)

I grew up in Minnesota. Minnesota nice. I was 16 in 1977. I fished in a lake 300 yards from my house. People were nice. Bethel Bible College. It snowed all the time. I shoveled a lot of snow. Im moving to California someday. I got a job at the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party (DFL) headquarters. Hubert Humphrey formed the party. He was Minneapolis mayor in 1948, and he gave an electrifying speech at the National Democratic Convention about Civil Rights … The time has arrived in America … to walk forthrightly into the bright sunshine of human rights! I stuffed a lot of envelopes. I did advance work. I was very social-justice oriented. I believed in what I was doing … even if it was mostly envelope stuffing. The DFL office was located at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in South Minneapolis. George Floyd was killed at 38th and Chicago. We need to walk forthrightly again.
